Vehicle Glazing

We were the main robot sub-contractors on a project in 2003 to install a glazing cell at a General Motors plant in Bochum, Germany, producing the Astra and Zafira.

Four Fanuc RJ3iB systems interface with a two cell PLCs, and control the gluing equipment and an measurment system developed in conjunction with the main contractor, Cimac International.

The front and rear windscreens are glued and installed fully automatically - the measurement systems each use 6 strip lasers to measure points on the vehicle, and the robots adjust the insertion position based on these measurements.

An additional laser striping device is used to monitor the bead of glue as it is applied to the glass, to ensure there are no gaps which would compromise not only the water-tighntess of the vehicle, but also its structural integrity.
